Paper Planes

Film and Planes
Letter press
2011
Paper Planes is a film which follows the production of a set of paper aeroplanes through a fine printing company. The project started after we visited the printer and were in awe of the processes, personalities, and skills that were the backdrop for the beautiful things that we saw being made.

The idea to make aeroplanes came after one particular process caught our eye; a folding machine that miraculously turned paper stock into complete, folded envelopes. We set about designing five paper planes that would demonstrate the best of the printer’s abilities, such as embossing, foiling, letter press and folding. As you follow the production process through the film, the planes are a protagonist that bring the printer’s wisdom to the surface and unlocks the stories and culture from the shop floor.
